Combico UK supports 2018’s Gas Safety Week

17th September 2018

This week marks the eighth annual Gas Safety Week, and First Choice Group are proud to be supporting this very important national safety campaign.

Gas Safety Week, which runs from September 17 – 23, is coordinated by Gas Safe Register, which sees organisations from across the UK raising awareness of the dangers of unmaintained gas appliances which can cause leaks, fires, explosions and even carbon monoxide poisoning.

Launched in 2011, Gas Safety Week involves supporters taking part in activities and communicating the importance of gas safety amongst the gas industry, consumer organisations and any other organisation that works with gas.

First Choice take pride in being home to the specialist training division, Combico UK, which delivers professional training courses and assessments under the Nationally Accredited Certification Scheme for Gas Fitting Operatives (ACS).

Our courses and training facilities are specially designed for catering engineers and technicians who wish to broaden their knowledge of service and maintenance with commercial catering equipment.

Combico Technical Training Manager, Martin Dagnall, said: “Taking part in Gas Safety Week is crucial in spreading the message of gas safety, and First Choice and Combico will be joining in on this campaign for the rest of the week and encouraging people to make sure that they are fully aware of how their gas appliances work.”

From First Choice’s Cannock offices, Combico run ACS gas training and assessments for engineers and technicians working within the commercial catering industry.

This Gas Safety Week, Martin offers his top commercial catering safety tips:

  1. Always follow the manufacturer’s installations instructions which are provided with your appliance.
  2. Make sure that your gas certification covers the equipment that you are working on, for example, if you are working on a combi oven with forced draught burners, you must have COMCAT 5.
  3. Ensure that all of your test equipment is in good working order and within calibration.
