Retirement Beckons For Our Friend Mike

One of First Choice Group’s closest and most loyal friends came to see us on the eve of his retirement.
Mike Dyer, Proprietor at Apex Europe, has been a First Choice customer since 1999, sourcing (among others) Electrolux, Hobart, Rational and MKN parts from us for his company’s clients in the Middle East.

He was invited along to our Kingswood Lakeside home to see Managing Director John Whitehouse – the pair first met over 20 years ago – and shake hands with customer service staff who have assisted Mike with his enquiries and purchases over the years. Nicola Turner, from our export division, has been one of his closest allies, developing a productive working relationship that has lasted more than a decade.

“First Choice has been a friend to me for many years and the reason I value the relationship so much is because of the way it conducts business,” said Mike.
“The personal touch helps to create a bond and engenders loyalty. When people take the time to establish a rapport it makes a real difference.
“Technology is threatening to take that away but should always be your tool, not your master. Too many companies are now becoming faceless, directing customers through websites with no personal interface.
“I believe it’s important to maintain that personal touch, treating each customer as an individual and building respect, trust and a lasting relationship."

Our Managing Director, John Whitehouse, said: “I’ve known Mike, personally, for many years and he has been a good friend as well as a valued customer of First Choice.
“His continued support and friendship over the years means he will be sorely missed by everyone at First Choice and I wish him a wonderful retirement, he deserves it.”

Both of Mike’s external sales managers, Ryan Underhill and Jack Stockley, were on hand to welcome him and take him on a tour of our state-of-the-art facility and introduce him to some of our newer members of staff.
Ryan commented: “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mike for five years. His no-nonsense approach to business has enabled us to have an open and productive relationship.”

Mike assures us that retirement does not mean going to grass and that he will remain as busy as ever in his work as a Town Councillor, Trustee of a number of charities and as Project Coordinator for ‘Thame Remembers,’ an ambitious WW1 commemoration project.
