In keeping with his employer’s embedded culture of professional integrity First Choice Group’s Purchasing Manager, Nigel Wykes, is advancing his influence and input at the company through learning.

Nigel, who has been with First Choice since 2014 has recently completed the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply’s course in Ethical Purchasing and Supply. The course fits nicely into the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Nigel is also working towards a level 6 qualification (Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) and is on the last leg of an Open University Degree in Natural Sciences.

“The organisations which achieve continuous success are the ones who know how to satisfy the aspirations of their stakeholders; that is their customers, suppliers and employees,” said Nigel.

“There are increasing expectations on purchasing and supply management professionals to demonstrate that they take both a social and ethical responsibility for the supply chains they manage.

“The MCIPS is an extremely highly regarded qualification and one of the most prestigious a professional purchaser can achieve.”

Nigel added there are numerous other factors shaping the demands of his role at First Choice Group. These include:

• Media and consumer pressure

• The need to comply with a particular code of conduct or legal imperative

• A requirement to include such issues in annual financial or social accounts

• Social audits

• Ethical investors

“The esteem in which First Choice Group is held, being the UK’s number one supplier of spare parts for the catering equipment industry, has been achieved through a commitment to professional ethics,” said Nigel.

“It gives me great pride and satisfaction to be able to develop my career for an employer that reflects the values that I hold as an individual.”
