FCSI praises the innovative EnviroPure System

It’s easy to forget that many of the world’s most famous landmarks provide catering facilities for the millions of people who visit them each year. The organisations in charge of such landmarks therefore now have a responsibility to manage the facilities and its food waste in a manner that is both environmentally and economically viable.

One such landmark that’s making a change is the Statue of Liberty in New York. Responsible for up to 1,000lbs of food waste each day, Liberty Islands Crown Café restaurant has become firmly committed to reducing its own carbon footprint.

Evelyn Hill Inc, the concessioner to both Liberty Island and neighbouring Ellis Island believes strongly in reducing the food waste generated in its operations. In the height of summer the café can serve up to 20,000 people per day.

Named Operator Innovator for Sustainability and Innovator of the Year by the National Restaurant Association in 2012, the company has installed the T&S Brass owned EnviroPure EPW Food Waste Disposal System. The very same system that First Choice Environmental Solutions now exclusively provides to the UK market.

Michael Jones from FCSI travelled to America last November along with members of the First Choice team, including the Directors and Project Manager Martin Allen. As well as representatives from T&S to find out how the innovative EnviroPure system is helping reduce Liberty Island’s carbon footprint and deal with Lady Liberty’s leftovers.

As a result of that trip last year all three of the FCSI Magazines have published an article detailing the success of the EnviroPure System at the world famous landmark. For more information and to read the full article Click Here.
