GIS Gas Interlock System

13 October 2009

An adequate ventilation system is essential in most commercial catering kitchens to safeguard the health of the workforce and current Gas Supply Regulations require that it is interlocked to ensure that the gas supply is shut off in the event of ventilation failure. First Choice has been supplying the popular GIS system
for several years and is now to offer the full series with a range of models and features to suit all installation requirements.

With the G02 and G04 models, sensors placed either side of the ductwork fan are connected to a pressure differential switch which is activated when the pressure difference changes. Alternatively the correct operation of the ventilation system can be verified by monitoring the power consumption of the circulation fan using Fan Power Sensors which are built-in to the G05 and G06 models. If incorrect operation of the ventilation system is detected by either method a solenoid valve is closed to shut off the gas supply to the kitchen. To simplify installation the GIS can incorporate an emergency shut-off switch and fan control switches. A complete system requires a GIS Control Box, either a Pressure Differential Switch or a Fan Power Sensor per fan (built-in with G05 and G06 models), a Gas Solenoid Valve and a Remote Emergency Shut-off Switch (optional).
